Measurement consistency is especially important to the quality of satellite sensor validation. The new RSSRG calibration facility allows optical instruments to be calibrated against a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) source.

Validation of remotely estimated parameters is an important part of the work undertaken by RSSRG. RSSRG is working with various Departments within the Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Department of Environment, Water and Catchment Protection, Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM), Fisheries WA, the Strategic Fund for Research of the Marine Environent program (SRFME) and the Defence Scientific and Technologies Organisation (DSTO) to validate the current array of on-orbit atmospheric, ocean and land sensors.
